Pearls of Wisdom

Story:

Before my mother died, she was losing the ability to communicate, so when I visited, I would try to get her to talk. She was 96 at the time, and I figured she must have some thoughts on what’s important in life. I came up with the idea to ask her for some pearls of wisdom. For several months she had nothing to offer; trying to coax her to share some advice became a fun game, in and of itself. Then one day, the pearls rolled off her tongue: “Be kind, be truthful, be good.” Those pearls are on my quilt, and her wisdom is hand-stitched over them.
